With its practice of instant composition conducting, the VIENNA IMPROVISERS ORCHESTRA addresses a special discourse of experimental composition and complex improvised music for large ensembles: the architecture of a piece of music is designed ad hoc, which is communicated to the ensemble musicians with a vocabulary of hand signs for parameters such as pitch or dynamics, on the basis of which the musicians develop their own ideas.
